In SH3 we come across a book about the etymology of the Gods of Silent Hill. The image that appears on the screen shows the book open on two pages. Thanks to Nur Ein Tur she showed a larger image of these pages. While studying the image I discovered that on the left page one can read the following text.

Цитата
About syncretic religions
There is no religion that has
remained unchanged from the
moment it was founded.
This one is no execption.

When this religion fell into the
hands of immigrants, it was deeply
influenced by their own original
Christian beliefs.

For example, the traditional
representatives of these primal
gods may be given the names and
descriptions of Christian angels.
This shared characteristics being
to appear.

(There is also one rare example
of the chief deity, "Creator of
Paradise" or "Lord of Serpents
and Reeds", being dubbed with
a demon's name. Of course, this
was not done by believers, but
by their opponents.)

Anyways on the right hand page is more text. It's hard as hell to read, but I was able to make out the following.

Цитата

"Someday when that girl ___ the devil . Kidnapping for the____ I don't ___ believing in it. ___ of the otherworld. ___ get anywhere. ____ on the picture in the _____ what is that?

"That's kind of weird. Some kind of dark force. Still, (unreadable text) --- Is it my imagination that ------. The only important thing for the ??Sehell?? is ------"

Alright so it may look like a jumbled messed, but somebody's gotta find this interesting! :>

That's interesting! beer.gif

*tries to look very carefully* Can't make it out... does it really say something like this...?

Well, anyway, "the devil" is very interesting given that the main text mentions the dubbing of the deity with the demon's name. Could it be something from those 'opponents' quoted there or something?

BTW, since we're discussing this book, one little note: in the original version the book is called a bit differently -- more like "About the appearance of God" or "concerning the shape of God" (神の姿について, kami no sugata nitsuite). And here's the original text:

Spoiler

Another little note: the word for "demon" in the sentence "being dubbed with a demon's name" (悪魔, akuma) is the same one used in the "Red Devil" (akai akuma), in the Crimson Tome when comparing the Holy Mother with "the Devil", and also in Jasper Gein's speeches "maybe I'll meet the Devil this time" and "I finally met him -- the Devil". So, I guess in the book it's rather "the devil" is implied, not "demon".

You're actually onto something... or someone rather.

The text on the right side is filler text. Actually, it has nothing to do with God's appearance. Yet, it has something do with someone's appearance. It serves dual purposes. On one hand, it was used simply so that the book's appearance will mimic a real book, but on the other hand, it's for anyone who can decipher the text and find the relative meaning hidden within it. You can consider it as an easter egg if you want.

And, the plot thickens.

The text is actually an old translation of one of the memos in Silent Hill 3. You might not even recognize it because it differs somewhat from the current translation that the game uses. Let's see if you guys can figure out what that memo is.

Lol, maybe this one -- the Dad's Memo from the Amusement Park:

Dahlia's the one who said it - said that girl was a demon.
That she took my daughter for a sacrifice.

But it's not totally believable. I mean, appearances can be deceiving.
When I saw that photo in the hospital basement, I thought,
"That girl looks like Cheryl." Is that why I feel this way ?

Something's not normal, anyway.
Nothing good will come of this.
But I just can't think of her as a demon.

Is it my imagination, or do I actually feel sorry for her?
Why do I feel like she's looking for someone to help ?

Cheryl's what's important to me.
Everything else can wait until I've gotten her back.

However, the second part of that old text kinda reminds another Dad's Memo -- the last one, in the notebook.

I think Kromy has it right. And actually I did have a feeling that the text was about Alessa, especially with the bits about "When the girl ____ the devil." "Kidnapping for the ___" etc.

Haha, I gave away too many clues.

From what I've heard, Harry's memos were in one piece during its conception, but were later divided as deemed necessary. That might be the reason that it seems like it's using both memos. As I've said, it's an old translation. It's grammatically closer to the Japanese language, then it is to English.
